PROFESSIONAL EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY
Telehealth
What is telehealth you may be wondering? It is simply the act of doing your sessions over a video call! Telehealth options for all areas of health care have improved tremendously in the last 5 years. It can be a great way to reduce barriers of access to those living in rural area, or just be an easier for people to add sessions into their busy schedules. Read more about the benefits of telehealth below!
How Telehealth Services Work at PEP
At PEP, we utilize telehealth for kinesiology and exercise physiology services. We have found that telehealth options work very well for exercise based sessions and providing client education, as kinesiology and exercise physiology is more 'hands-off' than other physical therapies such physiotherapy, chiropractic, or massage therapy - so there is no real need to see someone face to face!
Telehealth services are run through online video calls - either Zoom, Skype, or Google Meet - which ever is easiest for you! Your preferred method can be discussed when booking a session and a link to the video call will be sent to you prior to the session starting. To avoid delays, make sure you have the app or software downloaded first!
You will need to have a working microphone and video camera to complete the telehealth sessions - this will ensure you are receiving the information effectively and completing the exercises correctly! If you have any issues, the therapist will reach out to you.
Confidentiality with Telehealth
Your privacy and protection is so important to us! We use one time links for all telehealth services to ensure that they are not accessed by anyone else other than the therapist and client. We also ask you to use a secure, personal, internet access for your cyber security. All video calls are NOT recorded for safety and privacy of clients.
Clients are asked to sign confidentiality agreements prior to initial sessions, so we are all on the same page!
Benefits of Telehealth
Although video sessions can not always be the best for exercise testing or working with more vulnerable persons, there are still many benefits to using telehealth such as:
-
Easier access to session for those who live rurally / remotely
-
Can be accessed by anyone who lives in Canada (not just those local to a specific clinic)
-
Can fit better with peoples schedules
-
Can be completed from the comfort of your home
-
Can still be attended even if you or a house member needs to stay home due to illness
-
May help people be more accountable to home exercise programs
-
Can help reduce the barrier of finding transportation or child care to attend sessions
